May 15 (Thursday) at 5 pm, at the VMU Faculty of Social Sciences (Jonavos St. 66-325, Kaunas) dr. G. M. Paletz lecture „Cultural Smuggling”: A Lithuanian Art for the World”.
The lecture proposes an original concept inspired by Lithuanian history of ‘Cultural Smuggling’–the ability to incorporate suggestive and even subversive ideas, ambiguities, characters and feelings into officially approved subjects. The lecture reveals this art of cultural smuggling in excellent Lithuanian documentaries from the Soviet period–and as a skill that applies to many other contexts, including contemporary media.
Lecture is organized together with VMU Social Anthropology centre as a seminar for Social Anthropology students and enthusiasts.
