In 2010 November 22 at Vytautas Magnus University, the lecture “Richards Gavelis thinks about Vilnius” was held by this year’s laureate of the science prize of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Lithuania, prof. Violeta Kelertienė. Also, during the autumn semester, V. Kelertienė gave lectures at the intensive course “Creation of Richard Gavel in a post-colonial aspect”.

The famous literary scholar was awarded for the active dissemination of Lithuanian culture, Lithuanian studies and science abroad and in Lithuania. The scientist constantly participates in Lithuanian scientific and academic activities, publishes her articles in Lithuania. She is a member of the editorial boards of many Lithuanian scientific and cultural publications. Currently, V. Kelertienė is a professor at the Department of Scandinavian Studies at the University of Washington and translates Žemaitė’s texts into English.
